Last Week's Games
Friday, February 13th - Rochester Americans 2 at Quad City Flames 4
The Flames earned their second straight win on Friday night when Quad City topped Rochester 4-2. Kyle Greentree scored his 26th and 27th goals of the year in the win while Adam Cracknell and Kris Chucko added single tallies. Leland Irving was strong in net as he stopped 24 shots including 15 in the second period. The teams exchanged first period markers with Kyle Greentree scoring for Quad City and Jordan Henry replying for Rochester. Greentree scored when he tipped home a point shot by Anders Eriksson while the Flames were on the man advantage at 1:29 of the opening period. The Americans responded just 1:54 later when Jordan Henry beat Leland Irving with a screened point shot. The Flames went on to outshoot the Americans 12-6 in the opening 20 minutes but could not beat Rochester's Mike Brodeur a second time.
The Flames scored the only goal of the period despite being outshot 15-13. Leland Irving held the fort through the first half of the period as he denied several quality scoring chances. The Flames rallied to re-gain control of the game just past the midway point of the middle frame. At 14:03 of the period, Gord Baldwin took a shot from the left wing circle that Brodeur was able to knock down. Adam Cracknell recovered the free puck just outside of the Rochester crease and flipped it past Brodeur for his seventh goal of the season. The tally was the only goal scored in the middle period, and the Flames headed to the dressing room with a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.
The Flames expanded their lead at 5:57 of the closing frame when Kris Chucko scored on a 2-on-1 break. Cam Cunning earned the primary assist the goal. The Amerks scored a shorthanded goal with 2:54 left in regulation when Shawn Matthias converted following a Flames turnover to slice the Quad City lead to one goal. Kyle Greentree netted his second goal of the night into an empty net with 54 seconds left to secure the Flames win.
Saturday, February 14th - San Antonio Rampage 3 at Quad City Flames 7
The Flames offense exploded for six second period goals en route to a 7-3 win over San Antonio on Saturday night. The seven goal output established a new club record for goals in a game. The team also set a new franchise high for goals in a single period with six tallies in the middle frame. Carsen Germyn established a new franchise high for points in a game with five (a goal and four assists). Kris Chucko scored twice in the win while Matt Pelech, Cam Cunning, Warren Peters and David Van der Gulik contributed single tallies. The teams traded markers early in the first period. San Antonio's Kevin Porter made a nifty move to slip past the Quad City defense and score his eighth goal of the year during a stretch of 4-on-4 hockey. The Flames answered back one minute later. Matt Pelech was pulled down during a breakaway and awarded the first penalty shot of his professional career. Pelech converted on the chance to tie the game at one. The teams skated scoreless through the remainder of the opening period.
The Flames established franchise records for goals in a period (six) and total goals (seven) in the second period. The tidal wave of offense began with three goals in a span of 47 seconds. Cam Cunning scored his third goal of the year followed by Kris Chucko's 18th tally just 17 seconds later. Warren Peters tipped home a Brad Cole point shot exactly 30 ticks after Chucko's marker. The Flames extended their lead to 5-1 when David Van der Gulik scored on a wraparound at 6:36 of the period. San Antonio netted their only goal of the period at 11:19 of the frame when Simon Ferguson scored on a breakaway.
The Flames added another pair of goals late as Chucko scored for the second time in the period and Carsen Germyn netted his first goal of the night. Germyn scored by deflecting a Gord Baldwin point shot with just three seconds left in the period. It was Germyn's fifth point of the period as he had assisted on four of the Flames goal. The tally established a new Flames record for points by a single player in a game. Quad City left the ice with a 7-2 lead after two periods. The Rampage scored the only goal of the third period when Brett MacLean jammed home a rebound following a shot by Francis Lessard. The tally set the final at 7-3 in favor of the Flames.
Sunday, February 15th - Quad City Flames 2 at Milwaukee Admirals 1 Overtime
The Flames extended their winning streak to four games with a 2-1 overtime win on Sunday in Milwaukee. Kris Chucko netted the game-winning tally as Quad City equaled a franchise record for longest winning streak. Chucko has goals in each of the last three Flames games. Brad Cole also scored in the win. The Flames captured a 1-0 lead after one period. Brad Cole dumped the puck into the Milwaukee zone. Admirals forward Jed Ortmeyer recovered the puck while under pressure from the Flames forecheck. In an effort to clear the puck, Ortmeyer inadvertently shot the biscuit into his own net to stake the Flames to a 1-0 lead. Cole received credit for the goal, his second of the season. The teams skated scoreless through the second period as Quad City's Leland Irving turned aside 10 shots while Milwaukee's Mark Dekanich stopped all three shots he faced. The three shots on goal tied a Flames franchise record for the fewest shots in a single period.
Mike Santorelli scored his 16th goal of the year to tie the game at 6:59 of the third period. Santorelli picked off a no-look pass by Ryan Wilson and skated past Brett Palin before beating Irving to knot the score. The teams remained tied through the remainder of regulation. At 1:55 of the extra session, Admirals defenseman Tim Ramholt was whistled off for tripping. Kris Chucko scored on a blast from the left wing shot during the ensuing power play to secure the win for Quad City. Anders Eriksson and Jamie Lundmark assisted on the goal, the 20th tally of the year for Chucko.
