Rampage Drop Stars in Final Seconds, 5-4

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Despite outshooting their in-state rivals 48-26 for the game, Joey Hishon's power play goal with 21 seconds left in regulation snapped a tie game and dropped the Texas Stars in a 5-4 loss to the San Antonio Rampage on Saturday night in front of 5,891 in attendance at Cedar Park Center.

Hishon's game-winner came four minutes after Curtis McKenzie tied the game on the power play for the Stars (14-13-2-2). Travis Morin for Texas and Nikita Zadorov for San Antonio (14-10-6-0) both finished with three points to lead all skaters. Hishon finished with a pair of goals in the game.

The Stars and Rampage continue their home-and-home series Sunday at 4 p.m. CST in San Antonio.

San Antonio started the scoring at 5:23 of the first when Zadorov slapped in a shot from the left point and the Rampage doubled their lead to 2-0 on a rush ending with Dennis Everberg burying a deflected shot in the net at 7:35.

The Stars came alive in period two and peppered Roman Will with shots to get their offense going. After a Greg Rallo shot deflected off the post, Radek Faksa banged home his ninth goal of the season just two minutes in. Morin snapped a goal off the crossbar at 8:20 from a Matej Stranksky centering feed to erase the San Antonio lead, but Hishon pushed the Rampage back in front with his first of the night at 16:05. Despite trailing 3-2, the Stars outshot the Rampage 19-4 in the period.

The Stars came right back just 40 seconds into the third when Morin fed a crossing pass on the power play that Esa Lindell finished to tie the game again at 3-3. Scoring was quiet until 12:52 when Borna Rendulic slipped a wrist-shot to the upper left corner of the net as the Rampage catapulted back in front. The Texas power play unit went to work again late in the period as McKenzie deflected Morin's point shot for his fifth of the season to tie the game before Hishon's game-winner.

The Stars finished 2-for-5 on the power play. San Antonio went 1-for-4.

John Muse suffered the loss for Texas with 21 saves. Roman Will earned the win and stopped 44 of 48 shots in net.
