Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack 4-2 in front of a packed crowd in their annual Boxing Day game. Four skaters recorded double digit nights for the B-Sens with Cole Schneider (one goal, two assists) and Matt Puempel (three assists) leading the way.
The B-Sens opened the scoring 3:52 into the first period when Guillaume Lepine notched his first goal of the year with a slap shot from the left point. Binghamton doubled the lead with 8:48 to play in the opening frame after Eric O'Dell potted his tenth tally of the year ten seconds into the B-Sens first power-play opportunity of the evening. The visiting Wolf Pack managed to cut Binghamton's lead to 2-1 with five seconds remaining after Adam Tambellini converted on a power-play chance. Matt O'Connor stopped 10 of 11 shots faced in the opening 20 minutes of play while Magnus Hellberg corralled seven of nine Binghamton scoring chances.
The B-Sens regained their two-goal cushion 5:04 into the second period when Cole Schneider hammered in a loose puck on the crease for Binghamton's second power-play strike of the game. Just over two minutes later, Jayson Megna beat O'Connor's sliding save attempt to cut the lead to 3-2. That score held for the remainder of the period, and the B-Sens went to the final intermission with a one-goal advantage.
O'Dell's second power-play strike of the night at 7:16 of the third period extended the hosts' lead and some great goaltending from O'Connor down the stretch gave the B-Sens the 4-2 win.
O'Connor finished with 24 saves while Hellberg turned aside 20 of 24 Binghamton shots in the losing effort.
Binghamton travels to Hershey tomorrow for a 5:00p.m. faceoff versus the Bears before returning home on Tuesday, December 29, for a 7:05p.m. matchup with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
