Rampage Close out Road Trip with 5-3 Loss to Reign
March 18, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
ONTARIO, CA - The San Antonio Rampage (24-33-8-0) closed out a two-game California road trip with a 5-3 loss to the Ontario Reign (37-14-4-1) on Friday night. Sam Henley, Borna Rendulic and Reid Petryk each tallied goals for the Silver and Black.
The first period belonged to the Rampage, who got the game's first goal from Henley less than two minutes into the opening period. With the assist, Mikko Rantanen set a new franchise record for assists by a rookie in a season, surpassing Chad Kolarik's record of 30 set in the 2008-09 season. A turnover by Ontario in front of their own net led to the Silver and Black's second goal, as Rendulic beat Peter Budaj to give the Rampage a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
The Reign fought back in the second stanza, getting a power-play goal from Justin Auger just over eight minutes in and another from Brett Sutter near the end of the frame to tie the game at two heading into the second intermission.
Ontario came on strong in the third period, scoring three goals - a power-play goal from Jonny Brodzinski and two from Sutter and Sean Backman - in a 3:06 span to take a 5-2 lead. The scoring frenzy prompted coach Dean Chynoweth to make a change in net, and Spencer Martin, who was recalled by the Rampage on Thursday, entered the game in relief of Roman Will.
Reid Petryk notched his 14th marker of the season to cut the Rampage's deficit to two, but San Antonio was unable to overcome the deficit, falling 5-3.
San Antonio was outshot 33-23 and finished 0-for3 on the power play.
Lineup Notes The Rampage skated 11 forwards and seven defensemen. San Antonio's top two lines remained unchanged from Wednesday night's game against the San Diego Gulls. Sam Henley moved up to the third line, playing with Alex Belzile and Reid Petryk. Roman Will started in net.
Up Next The Rampage return home on Sunday, March 20 at 4 p.m. against the Grand Rapids Griffins, which will be the team's annual Pucks & Paws game, presented by Raising Cane's. Season tickets for the 2016-17 campaign are on sale now. For more information, call a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or visit sarampage.com.
