Flanagan Leads B-Sens to OT Victory

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators survived extra time and beat the Syracuse Crunch 4-3 in overtime Friday night. Kyle Flanagan sent home the overtime goal and also recorded an assist to lead Binghamton offensively.

The Binghamton Senators came out strong in the first period outshooting the Crunch 15-8, but both teams were held scoreless for the opening 20 minutes.

Casey Bailey started the night with his eighth goal of the year just 1:47 into the middle frame off assists from Chris Carlisle and Jason Akeson. With seven minutes left to play, Ryan Rupert doubled the lead for the B-Sens with his tenth goal of the year after being set up by Max McCormick and Fredrik Claesson. Syracuse's Jeff Tambellini scored an unassisted goal a little over five minutes later to send the teams to the locker room with the B-Sens leading 2-1 despite being outshot 12-7.

Syracuse evened the game up 2-2 4:36 into the final period after Matt Taormina put home his 12th goal of the season. Jonathan Drouin scored in the power play to push the Crunch in front, but Daultan Leveille scored his first goal with the B-Sens just past the midway mark to force the game into overtime.

Flanagan notched his sixth goal of the season just 36 seconds into overtime to give the Senators a 4-3 win.

Matt O'Connor picked up the win with 34 saves while Adam Wilcox had 20 saves in the losing effort.

The B-Sens are back tomorrow night for the Rochester Americans' final visit to the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena at 7:05p.m. Fans can purchase tickets by calling the B-Sens Executive Office Saturday from 8:00a.m. - the game's second intermission.
