Ads Fall to Checkers in Shoot-Out
March 18, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI--In a goaltenders duel the Admirals fell 2-1 in a shoot-out to the Charlotte Checkers on Friday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Charlotte's John Muse stopped 29 shots in regulation and overtime and all four Milwaukee shooters to give the Ads their first loss in a shoot-out in eight tries this season.
Marek Mazanec finished the night for the Admirals with 27 saves and turned aside three of four shooters but it wasn't enough.
After a scoreless first period Pontus Aberg put the Ads up 1-0 on his 18th goal of the year at 7:54 of the second period. Corey Potter started the play when he sent a long outlet pass from deep in the Ads zone up to the Charlotte blueline to Freddy Gaudreau. Gaudreau couldn't control the puck, but Aberg found it and put a burst of speed on to get by the Checkers defense before lifting the it over the outstretched pad of John Muse.
Things would stay that way until late in the third period when Jake Chelios sent a wrister from between the wheels that beat Marek Mazanec glove side with 5:10 to play in the third period.
After a scoreless but exciting overtime session the first seven shooters in the shoot-out missed before Justin Shugg connected on his try to give the Checkers the win.
The two teams came into the game tied for third in the AHL on the power-play, but both went 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
The Admirals and Checkers get right back at it tomorrow night at 7 at the BMOHBC. The first 3,000 fans will get a Sendik's Red Bag and country music star Dustin Lynch will perform live in a post-game concert.
