
Minnesota Wild Recalls Goaltender Steve Michalek from Iowa

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled goaltender Steve Michalek (pronounced MIKE-ah-lick) under emergency conditions from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Michalek, 22 (8/6/93), is 6-3-0 with a 2.46 goals-against average (GAA) and a .919 save percentage (SV%) in nine games with Iowa this season and 12-8-4 with a 2.42 GAA, a .924 SV% and two shutouts in 24 games with the Quad City Mallards (ECHL). The 6-foot-3, 205-pound native of Hartford, Conn., went 21-13-3 with a 2.28 GAA, a .924 SV% and three shutouts in 37 games for Harvard (ECAC) last season helping the Crimson win the ECAC Championship and advance to the NCAA tournament. He set Harvard goalie records with 37 games played and 1,029 saves. Michalek was selected by Minnesota in the sixth round (161st overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in Saint Paul. He has not appeared in an NHL game and wears sweater No. 50 with Minnesota.
Minnesota hosts the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday at 1 p.m. on FOX Sports North and KFAN 100.3 FM.
