Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Friday reassigned goaltender Jake Paterson to the Grand Rapids Griffins from the ECHL's Toledo Walleye.
Detroit's second choice (80th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Paterson has appeared in 26 games with the Walleye during his first professional season. The Mississauga, Ontario, native ranks ninth among ECHL goaltenders in goals against average (2.21) and is tied for sixth in save percentage (0.925) while showing a 14-9-1-1 record. He was named the ECHL's goaltender of the week on Feb. 2 following a week where he posted a 0.99 GAA, a 0.966 save percentage and a shutout during a pair of Walleye victories.
Serving as a backup with the Griffins for 14 games in December and January, Paterson recorded 38 saves in his AHL debut during Grand Rapids' 4-3 loss at Charlotte on Jan. 13.
Paterson, 21, split time with three teams during the 2014-15 season. In 24 games with the Ontario Hockey League's Saginaw Spirit, he accumulated a 12-11-1 record, a 3.48 GAA, and a 0.905 save percentage before being traded to the Kitchener Rangers. In 26 games with the Rangers, he amassed a 14-10-2 record along with a 2.37 GAA and a 0.929 save percentage. Paterson made his professional debut with the Walleye in a relief effort on April 11 against Kalamazoo before earning his first professional victory behind 32 saves on April 12 against Kalamazoo.
The Griffins have won 12 consecutive games and will continue a season-high five-game road trip as they face off against the Stars in Texas on Saturday at 8 p.m. EDT.
