June 5, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - John Andreoli had a multi-hit game and Anthony Misiewicz struck out seven across six innings on Tuesday against the Memphis Redbirds, but the Tacoma Rainiers fell short at Cheney Stadium, 9-3.
With Tacoma (29-29) trailing Memphis (24-25), 4-0, in the bottom of the first frame, Jose Lobaton doubled home Chris Mariscal on a line drive to right field. Shortly after that, Jaycob Brugman shot a sacrifice fly that sent Austin Nola home, narrowing the deficit 4-2.
Misiewicz (2-2) made the start for Tacoma and allowed six runs across six innings on eight hits and a walk. After Reggie McClain was charged with a pair of unearned runs in the seventh and Nick Rumbelow surrendered an eighth inning tally, Jake Haberer pitched a scoreless ninth inning in his Cheney Stadium debut, striking out one and allowing two hits.
The Rainiers were stymied after their two-run first inning until Andreoli singled home Kelby Tomlinson in the bottom of the eighth for the game's final run. The 28-year-old went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the defeat.
Tuesday marked Tacoma's third consecutive loss after winning six of their previous seven games. The losing streak matches the longest of the season for the Rainiers and their three-straight defeats at Cheney is the longest stretch of the campaign.
The Rainiers will send left-hander Jon Niese (3-1, 4.68) to the mound for Wednesday's game two against the Redbirds. First pitch from Cheney Stadium is at 6:05 p.m. PDT and Mike Curto will have full coverage of on South Sound Talk 850 with audio streaming available on the Tacoma Rainiers TuneIn Radio Network.
