Bees Fall to Missions in Game One

A six-run first inning helped the San Antonio Missions defeat the Salt Lake Bees 7-5 on Tuesday night at Smith's Ballpark.

The Bees allowed six San Antonio players to cross the plate in the first inning with three of those runs coming at the cost of two fielding errors. After the top of the first, Salt Lake scored four unanswered runs in the next six frames. The Missions extended their lead to 7-4 in the top of the seventh and would hold the Bees scoreless until Justin Bour tried to get a late rally started with a RBI double, but was stranded at second as the game tying run.

Patrick Sandoval (1-2) got the start for Salt Lake and suffered his second loss of the season after going one-third of an inning. The lefty allowed six runs (three earned) on four hits in the first inning. Following Sandoval, the Bees used three relivers to go the rest of way and combined to allow only one earned run on six hits. Salt Lake's offense was highlighted by eight extra-base hits, including solo home runs from Brennon Lund and Jarrett Parker. The Bees outhit the Missions 12-10 but had three runners thrown out at the plate during the game.

San Antonio and Salt Lake will meet again for the second game of the three game series tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
