The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders topped the Worcester WooSox 8-6 in the first game of series. Despite a late comeback effort by Worcester, SWB's three home runs powered their way to victory.

The RailRiders got the offense going in the second inning. Jamie Westbrook led off with a double and Jake Bauers walked to reach. A three-run homer from Rodolfo Duran gave SWB an early lead.

In the fifth, Harrison Bader took first on an error and Elijah Dunham reached on a walk. Andres Chaparro hammered a fly ball to left to plate three. Westbrook followed with a walk and immediately after Bauers launched his team-leading ninth long ball of the season. The RailRiders had an 8-0 advantage.

Worcester got on the board in the bottom half. Niko Goodrum and Greg Allen notched back-to-back singles. Ryan Fitzgerald smacked a two-run scoring double. Nick Sogard brought him in with an RBI single. SWB led 8-3.

The WooSox added one more in the eighth with a solo shot off the bat of Jorge Alfaro.

In the bottom of the ninth, Bobby Dalbec drove in two with an RBI double. Wilyer Abreu walked to put the go-ahead run-on base. But Alfaro struck out to end the contest 8-6.

Ryan Weber (W, 2-2) impressed out of the gate allowing just three runs in 5.2 innings. He struck on five in his second win of the season. Aaron McGarity got out of the sixth stranding a runner. He pitched a clean seventh. Deivi Garcia gave up three runs, two earned, after leaving the bases loaded in the ninth. James Norwood (S, 2) was able to get the final out of the contest with the tying run on second.

MLB Rehabber James Paxton (L, 0-3) got the start throwing 4.1 innings. He allowed five runs on three hits and four walks. Taylor Broadway allowed two home runs in his outing. Cam Booser tossed an inning and a third clean. Jake Thompson needed just five pitches to get two outs in the eighth. Ryan Sheriff let up just a walk in the ninth.

The RailRiders take on the WooSox tomorrow at Polar Park. Lefty Tanner Tully gets the ball for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with a 6:45 P.M. (EDT) first pitch.
