Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Chicago Cubs announced that Kyle Hendricks is expected to make his first Major League Rehab start of the 2023 season with the Iowa Cubs this Thursday, April 27, at Principal Park.

Hendricks was placed on the 15-day injured list last season on July 6, with what was then categorized as a right shoulder strain. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list on August 24, effectively shutting down his season. It was later revealed that he had a capsular tear in his right shoulder.

The righty last pitched for Iowa in 2014, when he went 10-5 with a 3.59 ERA in 17 starts. He struck out 97 batters compared to 23 walks and 98 hits in 102.2 innings pitched that year. Since then, in nine major league seasons, Hendricks is 87-61 with a 3.46 ERA in 1,312.2 innings.

Iowa will play game three against the Louisville Bats, Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday, with first pitch from Principal Park scheduled for 12:08 pm.
