MANCHESTER, NH - The Monarchs scored five times on the power play in a 6-1 route over Binghamton on Saturday at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

The Monarchs (25-8-3-1) capitalized on 14 Binghamton (15-17-3-1) penalties for their most power-play goals in a game this season.

Michael Mersch scored a season-high two goals tonight, the second multi-goal game of his career (also Apr. 9, 2014 at POR).

"We talked about scoring more even-strength goals and not relying on our power play as much," Mersch said. "But when you get them on the power play and things are working, we get them the ways we can."

Mersch scored a power play goal when he tipped in a rebound from Colin Miller's shot at 1:52 in the first period. Dowd also assisted on the goal.

Mersch tallied his second of the night at 12:34 in the second period off a rebound from Nick Ebert's drive from the blue line. Jordan Weal also assisted on the goal.

Binghamton bounced back to make it 2-1 with a power play goal. Ryan Dzingel beat Patrik Bartosak low glove side off a pass from Mike Sdao at 14:55 in the second.

The Monarchs answered back on a five-on-three power play when Andrew Bodnarchuk took a pass from Weal and shot high passed Peter Mannino at 18:44 to close out the second period.

The Monarchs struck again on the power play. Gravel fed the puck to Miller for a one-timer from the point at 1:24 in the third.

Vincent LoVerde added to the power play scoring less than a minute later with a pass from Weal and Forbort at 2:12 to extend the lead to 5-1.

Shore scored his team-leading 20th goal of the season on the power play at 4:11 in the third period to finalize the Monarchs' 6-1 win.

The Monarchs travel to Worcester on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. start against the Sharks. They return to the Verizon Wireless Arena on Jan. 17 when they host Providence on LA Kings Night. Alec Martinez bobblehands will be given out to the first 2,500 fans in attendance.

Notes:

* Prior to tonight, the Monarchs had scored two goals or less in each of Patrik Bartosak's previous four starts. The team went 0-2-2-0 in those games. * Binghamton had 66 penalty minutes tonight, the most by any Manchester opponent this year. * Manchester's five power play goals marked its most in a game this season.
