Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, NY -- Maxime Clermont made 24 saves and Paul Thompson and Mike Sislo each had two assists, helping the Albany Devils to a 3-1 advantage against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Saturday at Times Union Center. The Devils rebounded from a 4-0 setback against the Hershey Bears Friday to improve to 16-13-2-5. The Sound Tigers move to 17-15-3-1.

"Tonight we were playing a divisional team and we lost some points out there last night," Thompson said. "We had to come out with a response. They are a good team, they have a lot of depth and they play hard so to get two points against them is always nice. "

Clermont, who was reassigned from Orlando (ECHL) on Dec. 24, earned his second victory of the season in his second start. He made five stops in the first, 11 in the second and eight in the third.

"I was seeing pretty well," Clermont said of his seventh career AHL appearance. "I am not going to lie, my D did an outstanding job boxing guys out and it was making my job much easier. They did a good job getting rebounds. My D were a big part of tonight for sure."

Offensively, David Wohlberg, Joe Whitney and Stefan Matteau each scored.

Bridgeport's lone tally came from Kael Mouillierat. In goal, Kevin Poulin made 24 stops as Albany outshot Bridgeport, 27-24.

The Devils started strong thanks to Wohlberg's third tally of the season. Kelly Zajac sent the puck up ice to Thompson, who carried the puck into the corner. The puck popped out in front and Wohlberg was there for the goal at 1:34.

Shortly after, Sound Tigers winger Sebastian Collberg sent the puck into traffic in front of the Devils net. After a few bounces, Mouillierat tapped in a loose puck to tie the game, 1-1, at 4:06.

In the second period, Whitney tallied the go-ahead goal of the game and his 14th of the season. With a power-play advantage, the Devils controlled the puck in the offensive zone, giving Whitney time and space to rip a shot from the top of the circle past Poulin at 2:27.

The power-play goal gives the Devils 11 in the last 12 contests. They entered the game 11th in the league, working at 17.2 percent.

"We moved the puck around well last night, but it's tough when you get pucks blocked," said Head Coach Rick Kowalsky. "I thought we did a really good job moving the puck quickly and rotating well. The key with the power play is we want to shoot which we did tonight, but it is about retrievals and getting it back quick."

In the closing seconds, Sislo forced a turnover and Rod Pelley hit the post on a 3-on-0 breakaway. Matteau was there to clean up the rebound and produce the final result at 19:00.
