Providence Bruins News Release
WORCESTER, M.A. - Bryan Lerg scored on a penalty shot and the Worcester Sharks defeated the Providence Bruins at the DCU Center 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night.
Providence scored on the second shot of the game, as Colin Stuart lit the lamp for the first time in his P-Bruins career at 18:19. Rob Flick had the lone assist on the play.
The Sharks capitalized only :02 into their first power play. Dylan DeMelo scored right after receiving the faceoff feed from Willie Coetzee to tie the game at one with 13:50 left.
Less than two minutes after the Sharks tied the contest, the Bruins had an answer. After Worcester backed off without a forecheck, Steve Eminger fed Chris Casto, and Casto found Brian Ferlin wide open just outside the blue line. Ferlin wristed one past Grosenick after a couple of strides up the right wall.
Coetzee and the home team re-knotted the game up at 2-2 later in the period. Coetzee tipped Danil Tarasov's wrister from the left side of the zone, and it hopped over Smith's shoulder with 2:43 remaining.
Alexander Khokhlachev became the third Bruin with a go-ahead goal in the game at 17:44. He forced a turnover at the top of the slot and easily beat Grosenick for a 3-2 Providence lead.
In the third frame, Tarasov scored from the left wing circle after Chris Tierney controlled it in the corner. Coetzee got the secondary assist at 3:58. With 12:42 left, Greger Hanson missed a one-time chance from the far doorstep, and Smith made two more impressive saves after two blocked shots after a Worcester power play.
Ferlin had a breakaway with just over two minutes left, and Worcester had two chances inside the final minute, though neither team scored again in regulation.
With the Sharks on the power play in overtime, two P-Bruins landed in the crease, and Bryan Lerg was awarded a penalty shot at 6:15. The Worcester captain scored top-shelf on a wrister after almost stopping completely in the slot and switching from forehand to backhand.
The Bruins' next game is on Sunday at 3:05pm against the Portland Pirates.
