Admirals Kings Checkers 5-0
January 10, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI--Colton Sissons and Viktor Arvidsson each scored two goals and Magnus Hellberg stopped all 31 shots he saw for his fourth shutout of the season as the Admirals won 5-0 over the Charlotte Checkers on Saturday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
The shutout was the second straight for the team, after they blanked Rockford 1-0 last night and marked the first time since April of 2013 that they have posted back-to-back shutouts.
The whitewashing for Hellberg, who was playing in his first game since being named to the AHL All-Star team, was the ninth of his career, moving him into a tie for third place in Admirals AHL history.
The four-game winning streak was the longest for the Ads since they won six in a row to start the season and comes on the heels of a four-game losing streak.
It looked as the game would be scoreless after the first period, however Arvidsson found a loose puck between the Charlotte circles, spun to his forehand, and fired a wrister that got between two Admirals and by Charlotte goalie John with just 15.6 left in the opening frame.
Right at the end of the first period, the Checkers Andrej Nestrasil was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for butt-ending. With just 14 seconds left in the ensuing power-play the Ads were able to covert when Sissons got the rebound of an Anthony Bitetto shot and slid it by Muse for a 2-0 lead.
Later in the second period the Admirals got 5-on-3 power-play for over 1:20 and Sissons struck again from almost the exact same spot to push the lead to three. Once again Bitetto fired a shot from the left circle and this time it clanged off the right post and straight to Sissons to the left of the net. He had an open cage for his second of the period and 11th of the season.
Bitetto earned a goal of his own in the third period, his first since October 24th at Chicago, when his shot from the point deflected off a Charlotte defenseman's stick and then bounced by Muse at 12:33 of the third to make it 4-0.
Arvidsson finished off the scoring on the night with a highlight reel goal with 4:14 to play in the game. Arvidsson carried the puck into the Charlotte zone, swooped down below the right dot and then did a toe-drag before pulling the puck to his backhand a roofing it over a prone Muse.
The Admirals hit the road for a three-game road trip beginning Wednesday night in Hamilton at 6:30 pm.
Milwaukee's next home game will be Wednesday, January 21st when they play host the Utica Comets at 7 pm at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
