
Falcons Topped by Wolf Pack, 4-3, in Overtime

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons were topped by the Hartford Wolf Pack, 4-3, in overtime tonight at the MassMutual Center.
The Falcons held the lead at three separate occasions, but the Wolf Pack constantly battled back to stay in the game. An overtime tally by Marek Hrivik during three-on-three play finally put the team on top and gave the Wolf Pack the victory.
The loss moves Springfield to 25-10-3-0 on the season and 2-0-1-0 in the 10-game season series with Hartford. By making it to overtime, the Falcons picked up one point and maintain control of the Northeast Division with 53 points. The Wolf Pack advance to 20-12-2-2 on the season.
Falcons goaltender Oscar Dansk turned away 32 of 36 shots in defeat. Wolf Pack goaltender Mackenzie Skapski earned his ninth win of the season, stopping 27 of 30 shots. Springfield was unable to find of the back of the net on three power plays, while the penalty kill unit shut down all four Hartford man-advantages.
The Falcons took their first lead of the game at the 12:16 mark of the first period. Captain Ryan Craig skated the puck into the Wolf Pack's zone and threw it across the slot to Trent Vogelhuber. Vogelhuber's quick backhander through the crease perfectly set up T.J. Tynan to one-time his fifth goal of the season.
The Wolf Pack got on the board at the halfway mark of the second, but the Falcons finished the period leading, 2-1. Dylan McIlrath fired a shot from the right wing circle that slipped just under the crossbar and evened the score at the 11:20 mark. However, the Falcons fought to take back the lead with 5:53 remaining in the frame. Frederic St. Denis powered a shot from the high slot that was tipped last minute by Kerby Rychel. Adam Cracknell earned his second point in as many nights for the secondary assist.
The final four minutes of the third period were a struggle for control of the game, with Hartford climbing back to knot the score twice. A shot by Oscar Lindberg from the blue line beat Dansk five-hole and tied the teams, 2-2. Michael Kostka picked up a point for the assist.
Recently named AHL All-Star Classic defenseman Austin Madaisky notched an unassisted tally with 1:18 remaining the give the Falcons back the lead, but they were unable to shut the Wolf Pack down.
With just 35 seconds remaining, Conor Allen let off a low shot from the left point that was tipped into the goal by Joey Crabb. Chris Mueller recorded the secondary assist.
A tied game at the end of regulation sent the Falcons into overtime for the 10th time this season. At the 4:30 mark, Hrivik fired a shot that caught the crossbar and ricocheted into the goal giving the Wolf Pack a 4-3 victory with the help of Kostka and Ryan Haggerty. The Falcons now hold a 7-3 record when requiring extra time.
The Falcons host the Albany Devils on Jan. 11 at 3 p.m.
