Oklahoma City Barons News Release

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - Andrew Miller had an assist and scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, as the Oklahoma City Barons downed the Adirondack Flames 5-4 Friday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Miller scored the game-winning goal at 1:11 of the overtime period in a 4-4 game when he picked up a loose puck in the left circle and flipped a shot around Adirondack defender Sena Acolatse and over the glove of net minder Brad Thiessen.

After the Flames scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead late in the second period, Miller tied the game on the Oklahoma City power play when he grabbed a Brad Hunt shot that caromed off the boards behind the Adirondack net and put the puck into the vacated side of the Flames net.

Four of the Barons five goals came on the power play, tying a franchise record for most power play goals in a game set five times in team history, the last occurring Nov. 13, 2012 against the Toronto Marlies.

Adirondack's Emile Poirier matched Miller with two goals and an assist, including a late third period goal to force overtime.

Hunt and Steve Pinizzotto each had two assists for the Barons, with Hunt's moving him into fourth place in the AHL in points among defensemen.

The Barons got on the scoreboard at 3:43 of the first period, following a holding penalty to Poirier at 2:08 of the frame. With the man advantage, Miller sent a pass from the left circle to the right, where a wide-open Curtis Hamilton flung the puck past Thiessen for a 1-0 Oklahoma City lead.

After penalties to Adirondack's Michael Ferland at 7:31 and Dustin Stevenson at 8:49 gave the Barons a 5-on-3 advantage, Oklahoma City finally converted their opportunity at the 9:58 mark of the first, shortly after Ferland's penalty expired to lessen the Barons' advantage to 5-on-4. Following a Josh Winquist shot from just beyond the left circle that bounced off the left pad of Thiessen, Iiro Pakarinen gathered the rebound and put the puck back on net, past the Flames goaltender for a 2-0 Barons lead.

The Flames scored the next three goals, however, beginning at 15:02 of the first when Sven Baertschi sent a cross-ice pass to the point, where Bill Arnold then sent the puck back to Baertschi, who beat Barons goalie Laurent Brossoit with a backhand attempt at point-blank range.

Poirier's first goal tied the game at two at 3:59 of the second period, when the Adirondack forward grabbed the rebound of a Baertschi shot in front of the Oklahoma City net and pushed the puck past Brossoit.

Adirondack took a 3-2 lead at 17:53 of the second period with a goal by John Ramage off a centering pass from David Wolf.

In the final minute of the third period, the Barons made good on a couple of penalties to the Flames' Poirier and Corey Potter. With a 5-on-3 advantage, Oklahoma City tied the game with 39 seconds left in the second on Miller's first goal, and then 22 seconds later took a 4-3 lead when Jordan Oesterle sent a pass to the right circle, where Winquist blasted a one-timer past Thiessen.

Poirier's second goal tied the game midway through the third period, when he took a Tyler Wotherspoon pass at the right side of the Barons net and chipped the puck past Brossoit for what would eventually be the goal that forced overtime.

Miller's game-winning goal marked the second consecutive Barons overtime game he's scored the winning goal in.

The Barons next travel to Rochester, N.Y., where they will face the Americans on Saturday, Jan. 10, in a 6 p.m. CST start at Blue Cross Arena.
