Chicago Wolves News Release

Grand Rapids, Mich. - John Anderson's 1,000th regular-season game as the Chicago Wolves' head coach did not live up to the occasion as the Grand Rapids Griffins claimed a 5-1 victory Saturday night at Van Andel Arena.

All-Star right wing Ty Rattie delivered his 16th goal of the year for the Wolves (18-14-4-0), who mustered just 20 shots. Landon Ferraro posted 2 goals and 1 assist to pace the Griffins.

Grand Rapids (19-13-4-0) jumped on the board first with Ferraro's goal 3:49 into the game. Marek Tvrdon claimed the puck along the end wall and fed Ferraro at the bottom of the right circle. His one-timer beat Wolves goaltender Jordan Binnington on the short side for his 14th goal.

The Griffins moved ahead 2-0 at 11:45 of the first period on Andy Miele's goal after an extended scramble in the Wolves zone. Chicago rebuffed the initial attack, but the Griffins regained possession and defenseman Nathan Paetsch found Miele uncovered below the right circle for a quick wrister into an open net.

Grand Rapids' lead swelled to 4-0 with a pair of goals 22 seconds apart in the second period. Mitch Callahan chipped one home at 14:16 and Brennan Evans capped a rush with a wrister from the slot at 14:38. Matt Climie replaced Binnington in goal after the latter tally.

The Wolves broke through with Rattie's goal 1:07 into the third period. Pat Cannone rattled the puck from the left point down to Magnus Paajarvi behind the net. Paajarvi threaded a backhand feed through the crease and Rattie squeezed past a Grand Rapids defenseman to knock the puck into the net.

Binnington (10-6-1) posted 20 saves on 24 shots while Climie stopped 9 of 10 shots in relief. Grand Rapids goaltender Tom McCollum (10-8-3) notched 19 saves for the win.

The Wolves travel to Iowa on Tuesday before returning to Allstate Arena to face Lake Erie at 7 p.m. Friday and Rockford at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Wolves will debut their Fight Against Cancer specialty jerseys in those home games. To get the best deals on tickets, visit ChicagoWolves.com or call 1-800-THE-WOLVES.
