The two teams combined for five goals on just 15 shots as the Bruins took a 3-2 lead into the first intermission. Colin Stuart (1st) gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead at 1:41 after his quick shot from the left wall broke off a Sharks defender and sputtered past Troy Grosenick. Worcester would tie the score on their first shot of the game after Willie Coetzee won an offensive zone faceoff and Dylan Demelo (3rd) quickly fired a shot past netminder Jeremy Smith at 6:10 just two seconds into the Sharks power play. Providence went ahead 2-1 as Brian Ferlin (6th) sent a snap shot from the right circle on the rush that broke off the glove of Grosenick and into the net at 7:57. Providence would strike right back at 17:44 as All-Star Alexander Khokhlachev (8th) broke in alone on Troy Grosenick after the Sharks turned the puck over and sent a backhander into the net. Providence held a 10-5 shot advantage through 20 minutes.

Each team fired 11 shots in the second period but Troy Grosenick and Jeremy Smith were able to stand tall. Providence took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission and held a 21-16 shot advantage through 40 minutes.

Worcester would tie the score for a third time at 3:58 of the third period as Daniil Tarasov (8th) took a pass from behind the net by Willie Coetzee and fired a quick shot from in tight that beat Jeremy Smith on the short side as the score was evened up at 3-3. Worcester outshot Providence 15-6 in the third period as the game headed to overtime tied 3-3.

Chris Tierney was tripped up by Steve Eminger at 4:43 of the overtime period to give the Sharks a power play.
