January 10, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release

Third period goals from Joey Hishon and Trevor Cheek secured a 2-1 victory for the Lake Erie Monsters (15-15-2-3) over the Hamilton Bulldogs (16-15-6-0) Saturday night at FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, Ontario. Hishon scored for the second straight game, while Cheek's eventual game-winner was his third goal in four games. Calvin Pickard earned the win in net, stopping 23 of 24 shots. The Monsters continue their five-game road trip Friday night in Chicago.

Through two periods, Pickard and Hamilton goalie Mike Condon were a perfect 16-for-16 stopping pucks before Hishon broke the scoreless tie. A perfectly placed stretch pass from the Monsters zone to Hishon on the opposite side of center by Karl Stollery sent Hishon on a breakaway, and Hishon finished the play with his ninth goal of the season at the 0:28 mark of the third period. Stefan Elliott also assisted on the goal.

Hamilton answered with a goal from Charles Hudon at 7:54 of the third to tie the game at 1-1, and the game remained tied into the late stages. Following a clean faceoff win, Max Noreau took the puck around the Hamilton net and centered a pass to Cheek, who wasted no time firing a puck past Condon for his fourth goal of the season, making the score 2-1. Heard, who won the offensive end draw, also assisted on the goal at the 16:45 mark of the third period.

Pickard is 8-6-3 in net after the win; he stopped 23 of 24 shots. Condon is 9-8-3 after the loss for Hamilton; he stopped 27 of 29 shots.

The Monsters visit Chicago Friday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. The game can be heard live on ESPN 850 WKNR.
