Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Phoenix RoadRunners rallied from a 4-2 third period deficit and defeated the Utah Grizzlies 5-4 in a shootout Wednesday night at the E-Center. Joel Irving recorded a hat trick for Utah in the game.
Utah jumped up quickly in the first, with two goals from Irving: the first one came thirty-five seconds into the game. Utah went up 2-0, 3:40 into the game on Irving's second score.
The RoadRunners rallied back with one late in the first and a power-play goal in the second to tie the game at two, heading into the third.
In the third, Joel Irving completed the hat trick, giving Utah a 3-2 lead 5:30 into the third. The Grizzlies went up 4-2 on Ryan Kinasewich's 27th goal of the season at 9:27.
Once again, the RoadRunners rallied from behind to tie the game; finishing with a 5-on-3 power-play goal at 17:23.
In the shootout, Cody Rudkowsky stopped all five Utah shots; while Phoenix's loan tally from Todd Jackson was all they needed for the shootout win.
Utah went 0-7 on the power-play, outshooting Phoenix 34-31.
The Grizzlies and RoadRunners continue their three-game series Friday and Saturday at the E-Center. Face-offs are scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
