Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, an affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes and the San Antonio Rampage, have acquired forward Greg Hornby from the Victoria Salmon Kings in exchange for defenseman Paul Ballantyne.

Hornby, 25, collected one goal, two assists and 110 penalty minutes in 36 games with the Salmon Kings. The Nanaimo, British Columbia native and third-year professional recorded a career-high 264 penalty minutes in 65 games last season with the Idaho Steelheads to finish fifth overall in the ECHL. A four-year product of Cornell University, Hornby helped lead the Big Red to the 2002 NCAA Frozen Four.

"We've got tremendous skill and speed on this hockey team, but it's been obvious through our first 41 games that we are lacking an overall element of toughness," said RoadRunners Head Coach Ron Filion. "With the additions of Hornby and Chris Cava, hopefully we've addressed those concerns."

Ballantyne leaves the RoadRunners with three assists in 19 games. A member of the inaugural 2005-06 team, Ballantyne tallied two goals and 14 points in 44 career games with the RoadRunners.

In two separate transactions, center Daniel Winnik has been reassigned by the Phoenix Coyotes to San Antonio of the American Hockey League, while the RoadRunners have signed rookie defenseman Kyle Orr to a standard player's contract.

Winnik, 21, notched six assists in four games with the RoadRunners since being assigned from San Antonio on Jan. 15. The Mississauga, Ontario native returns to the Rampage where he has tallied five goals and 11 points in 33 games. Winnik was named to the 2005-06 All-Hockey East Second Team and selected as a member of the 2006 All-New England Team after finishing second in scoring at the University of New Hampshire with a career-high 41 points on 15 goals and 26 assists in 39 games.

Orr, 22, made his Phoenix debut in the RoadRunners' 6-3 loss to Stockton Tuesday at US Airways Center. The Scarborough, Ontario native appeared in 32 games with the Arizona Sun Dogs of the Central Hockey League earlier this season and collected two assists and 43 penalty minutes. Orr is the nephew of National Hockey League Hall of Fame defenseman Bobby Orr.

The RoadRunners open a three-game series with the Utah Grizzlies beginning at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday from the "E"-Center in West Valley City, Utah. Catch all the action live by logging on to www.phxroadrunners.com beginning with "RoadRunners Countdown" at 6:45 p.m.

Phoenix returns to US Airways Center at 7:11 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6 as they welcome back the Stockton Thunder. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
