TOLEDO, OH (January 31, 2007) - Trailing 5-1 heading into the third period, the Trenton Titans fell one goal short of their comeback bid as they lost to the Toledo Storm, 5-4, at the Toledo Sports Arena
Mark Pandolfo got the Titans started 4:13 into the third as he went diving to the ice to bat Mike Manley's centering pass up and over the shoulder of Storm goalie Dominic Vicari. Trenton got another goal 2:08 later when Les Haggett tipped in Evan Shaw's point shot.
On their fourth power play of the game, the Titans made the score 5-4 as Scott Bertoli threw a pass to the far post that deflected off of Storm defenseman P.J. Martin and into the net.
Trenton, however, would be unable to notch the game-tying goal as Vicari denied them down the stretch.
The Titans broke the scoreless tie at 9:30 of the first when Troy Riddle intercepted the puck at the Storm blueline and threw a wrist shot past an unsuspecting Vicari for his sixteenth of the season.
Toledo need only 39 seconds to tie the score as TJ Sakaluk beat Joel Martin with a stuff shot inside the near post. P.J. Martin allowed the Storm to skate into the intermission with a 2-1 lead as he pounced on a loose puck in the slot and lifted it into the top corner with 34 seconds left until the break.
Trenton saw Toledo start to pull away in the second period as Mike Walsh lit the lamp twice in the period. His wrister from the near circle got past Martin's glove at 6:24 and then registered a near identical goal again at 17:52.
The eventual game-winner was recorded with just nine seconds left until the second intermission as Even McGrath picked up his own rebound and roofed it over a fallen Martin.
Martin takes the loss stopping 29-of-34 over two periods of work. Gregg Naumenko turned away all 15 shots he faced in relief.
The Titans went 1-for-4 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The Titans next hit the USBank Arena to face off against the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday, February 2 at 7:30pm. Tune into 91.3FM-WTSR to hear all of the Titans' action or listen or watch live via B2 Networks at www.trentontitans.com
