Awe Called Up to AHL Chicago

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that defenseman Jon Awe has been called up to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League for this third time this season.

Awe appeared in one game with the Gladiators since being sent down to Gwinnett on Tuesday. Awe collected an assist for Gwinnett in the Gladiators 5-4 overtime loss to the Alaska Aces on Tuesday night.

Awe has posted three assists in four games this season with the Wolves. This will be his fourth call up to the AHL this season as he was also scoreless in two games with the Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins in December.

The Memphis, Tennessee native currently ranks fourth in scoring on the Gladiators with 44 points off of 20 goals and 24 assists. He leads the ECHL in power play goals with 17, an ECHL record for most power play goals in a season by a defenseman.

Awe set an ECHL record posting the Hardest Shot with a 102.2 MPH slapshot during the 2007 RBK ECHL All Star Game Skill Competition on Tuesday, January 16th breaking Jaroslav Obsut's record of 99.3 MPH set in 1999.
