Penguins Trade Jensen to Carolina

WHEELING, WV - The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired center David Gove from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for left wing Joe Jensen, it was announced Thursday by General Manager Ray Shero.

Jensen, 24, has appeared in 37 games with the Wheeling Nailers in two seasons, recording 36 points (15g, 21a). He was named to the American Conference All-Star Team for the 2007 ECHL All-Star Game.

The 5-11, 180 pound native of Maple Grove, MN had four points (2g, 2a) in 27 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season. He combined for 15 points (8g, 7a) in 53 games during parts of two seasons with the Baby Penguins.

Jensen was originally selected by the Penguins in the eighth round (232nd overall) of the 2003 NHL Draft.

Gove, 29, has appeared in 45 games with the Albany River Rats (AHL) this season, recording 23 points (8g, 15a), 31 penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating. The 5-9, 190 pound native of Centerville, MA has appeared in 393 career AHL games with the River Rats, Lowell Lock Monsters, Providence Bruins, San Antonio Rampage and Grand Rapids Griffins, recording 162 points (80g, 82a).

Gove has also appeared in two games with the Carolina Hurricanes in his career, posting one assist. Additionally, he has suited up for the Orland Solar Bears (International Hockey League), the Johnstown Chiefs (ECHL) and the Laredo Bucks (Central Hockey League).

A standout at Western Michigan University, Gove recorded 143 points (57+86) in 144 games with the Broncos between 1997 and 2001. He was named the WMU Most Valuable Player in 1999-2000 and shared the award in 2000-01. He paced the club with 46 points (18+28) in 36 games during the 1999-20 season, and tied for the team scoring lead in 1998-99. Gove was also the Broncos' Rookie of the Year in 1997-98 and was named to the All-CCHA Second Team in both the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons.
