WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - Tyler Haskins enjoyed a four-point night as Utah dealt Alaska its third straight loss, 6-3, in front of 2,218 Thursday at the E Center.

Alaska killed four Utah power plays in the first period, but still fell behind 2-0 as Scott Burt scored his 17th off the rush at 8:58 and Keith Johnson flicked in a rebound for his 18th goal of the year with 2:54 remaining in the period. But just 27 seconds after Johnson's goal, the Aces got on the board as Josh Soares fed Kimbi Daniels for the latter's third goal in two games, one that sliced the Grizzlies lead in half at the break.

Utah built the margin to 4-1 in the second period as Haskins received credit for a goal that was the direct result of a centering pass that caromed off the pads of Alaska starter Derek Gustafson at 1:42 and Ryan Kinasewich whipped a wrist shot from the right circle just inside the left post with 11:21 remaining in the frame. The Aces again struck late in the period to gain new life, as Bo Cheesman registered his 19th goal of the year (second on the team behind Josh Soares) at 18:47.

Still trailing 4-2 midway through the third period, Alaska went on the power play, only to see Haskins go coast-to-coast just nine seconds into the man advantage for the back-breaker and a 5-2 Utah bulge. Corbin Schmidt brought the Aces within 5-3 at 12:22 with his second goal in three games and his fifth of the season. Alaska received its seventh power play of the night with 93 seconds remaining, allowing head coach Keith McCambridge to pull Gustafson (30 saves) and create a six-on-four situation, but Grizzlies defenseman James Sanford shoveled a loose puck the length of the ice and right into the heart of the net, giving Utah its second shorthanded goal of the night at 19:18.

Both teams finished 0-for-7 on the man advantage, while the Grizzlies (21-19-4) claimed a 36-22 edge in shots on goal. The two clubs resume their three-game series tomorrow at 4:45 p.m. AT. Alaska has lost nine of its last 11 road games and owns just two wins in its last 10 overall (going 2-6-2 over that stretch) while dropping to fourth place in the West Division at 20-16-5. All regular season games are broadcast live on Alaska's flagship station, AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to face-off.
