Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones will host an 'Education In Hockey Day' on Wednesday (February 6) at U.S. Bank Arena. The event will coincide with the Cyclones 10am game against the Mississippi Sea Wolves. It is the second consecutive year that the Cyclones have been involved with this type of program.
The day begins for students arriving at the game around 9:30am. After being seated and watching the players warm up, the JumboTron video boards will be used to air various segments showing how U.S. Bank Arena and the Cincinnati Cyclones are able to teach a variety of subjects to students. The eight Cyclones players with college degrees, teach the lessons in Geography, Physical Education, Math and Science. The video portion of the program throughout the game's intermissions will last approximately 30 minutes.
Among the topics covered will be understanding where players come from, distances covered and cities within the North Division, glaciers and their paths through Ohio, burning calories for athletes, collecting data and understanding probability, simple algebra, understanding elapsed time, building an ice rink, predicting changes due to force, changing states of matter, chemical changes to water, calculating miles per hour from distance and speed and energy conservation.
More than 2,700 students from the region will be on hand. A total of 24 schools, ranging from elementary school to high schools will be present. Seventeen cities between Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky will be represented.
