Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho-A week to the day of his last call up, the Idaho Steelheads today announced that defenseman Darrell Hay will once again join the American Hockey League's (AHL) Grand Rapids Griffins. Also today, forward Greg Rallo has been called up to the AHL's Albany River Rats. Both will sign Professional Tryout Agreements (PTO).
Hay, an ECHL veteran player, is playing in his eighth professional season this year and fourth with Idaho. The 27-year-old spent a couple of seasons in the AHL playing with the Manitoba Moose in 2001-02 and 2002-03. As a member of the Idaho Steelheads in 2003-04, he was called up to the team's then - AHL affiliate Utah for 10 games. Hay, 6-0 and 205-pounds, was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks, 9th round (271st overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. His career spans the WHL (Western Hockey League), IHL (International Hockey League), ECHL, AHL and a season in Germany. A member of the Steelheads' 2004 and 2007 Kelly Cup Championship teams, Hay becomes one of just 15 individuals to have his name engraved on the Kelly Cup twice, joining teammate Lance Galbraith. Hay was selected as an Alternate Captain and starter for the National Conference in the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game in Stockton, CA earlier this month.
Rallo, 26, is in his second full year as a pro and has posted 35 points (17g-18a) in 31 games for the Steelheads, which ranks second on the team in scoring. The Gurnee, Ill. native was named to the starting lineup for the National Conference All-Star team in the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game, scoring five points (1g-4a) to help the National Conference beat the American Conference 10-7. Rallo was a member of the Steelheads 2007 Kelly Cup Championship team, where he scored three game-winning goals in the Kelly Cup Finals against the Dayton Bombers. On May 25th, 2007 Rallo became the 12th player in ECHL history to record a hat trick in the Kelly Cup Finals with a three-goal performance in Game Two of the Finals. The 6-0, 195-pound center made his AHL debut with the Iowa Stars last season, scoring five points (3g-2a) in 28 games, while also appearing in two Calder Cup Playoff games for the Stars. Rallo played four years of Division I college hockey for Ferris State University, helping the Bulldogs win the 2002-03 CCHA regular season championship and reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
