READING, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced that the organization has selected Berks County Community Foundation to administer its charitable giving program on behalf of Royals Charities. The program will make grants throughout the region to charitable organizations, particularly those that serve disadvantaged or underprivileged youth.

"We're delighted that the Reading Royals selected the Community Foundation to manage the team's charitable fund," said Kevin K. Murphy, foundation president. "The team is known for the active role it takes in raising money to support causes that are important in our community."

During the 2005-2006 season, the Royals raised and donated more than $85,000 in funds, tickets, merchandise and memorabilia to local and national nonprofit organizations. The team's charitable activities include jersey auctions, such as the upcoming "Pink in the Rink" jersey auction to benefit local breast cancer groups.

The team also hosts an annual Battle of the Badges match, which raises money for a scholarship fund for the children of Reading's police officers and firefighters. The Community Foundation manages that fund as well.

"We are fortunate to a have an active, loyal fan base that really comes through in support of this community," said Gordon Kaye, general manager of the Reading Royals. "We see their generosity every time we hold a charity event or ask them to help a local cause. We're looking forward to working with the Community Foundation to ensure that the money we raise is used to support those causes, particularly those that benefit underprivileged children."
