(Pawtucket, RI) - The Pawtucket Red Sox opened a seven-game homestand with impressive pitching to narrowly defeat the Toledo Mud Hens, 2-1, for their third win in a row on Monday night at McCoy Stadium.

Pawtucket's (29-28) record climbed above .500 for the first time since the club was 11-10 on April 29.

Henry Owens allowed one run on five hits and three walks in 5.2 innings of work. His changeup helped him strike out six.

"He was pretty good," said manager Kevin Boles. "His delivery was a little bit cleaner tonight and his changeup was a weapon."

Owens has allowed one or no runs in six of his nine starts for the PawSox this season.

"I feel I took a couple steps forward tonight," Owens said. "From a consistency standpoint, I feel I was able to repeat my delivery within an at-bat from the first inning on."

Pawtucket gave Owens an early lead thanks to a two-out rally in the first inning.

Justin Maxwell singled, Chris Marrero walked and Chris Dominguez stroked an RBI single to score Maxwell with the first run of the night.

After stranding three different Toledo baserunners in scoring position over the first two frames, Owens allowed his only run in the third.

JaCoby Jones, making his Triple-A debt, blasted a game-tying home run on to the berm in left center field for his first hit as a Mud Hen (26-30).

Owens retired the next six batters he faced but hit trouble again in the fifth and sixth innings.

With two on and one out in the fifth, Jones lined a ball to center field and Ryan LaMarre threw behind the runner, Tyler Bortnick, at second base for a double play.

After a walk and a double put runners on second and third with one out in the sixth inning, Owens fanned his final batter of the night.

Anthony Varvaro (3-1) relieved Owens and delivered a strikeout as well, to keep the game tied 1-1.

Pawtucket retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning.

LaMarre singled to put runners on the corners and then swiped second base. Toledo starter Daniel Norris (3-5) intentionally walked Chris Marrero to load the bases for Dominguez.

Dominguez delivered his second RBI of the night with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Varvaro held the Mud Hens off the scoreboard in the seventh and eighth innings. His efforts were aided by catcher Dan Butler, who threw out Chad Huffman on an attempted steal of second base in the eighth inning.

Pat Light tossed a scoreless ninth for the save.

"The bullpen has done very well," said Boles. "They've attacked the zone and their secondary pitches have been effective.

The PawSox continue their four-game series with the Toledo tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Pawtucket righthander Joe Kelly (1-0, 1.26) is scheduled to face off with Mud Hens lefthander Matt Crouse (0-0, 1.59). Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM) and throughout the PawSox radio network begins at 6:35 p.m.

New England Patriots players James Develin, Brandon King and Rufus Johnson are scheduled to make appearances at tomorrow's game. Good seats for each remaining game of the seven-game homestand are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com.
