Pair of P-Bruins Goalies on the Move

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 19th season in the American Hockey League, today announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have reassigned goalie Michael Hutchinson to Providence from the Reading Royals of the ECHL. In a related move, the Bruins have loaned veteran goaltender Nolan Schaefer to the AHL's Hershey Bears.

Hutchinson, 21, has split his first professional season between the AHL and ECHL. The rookie returns to Providence following a two-day stint in Reading, where he made 41 saves in a 3-2 loss at Cincinnati in his only appearance. For the Royals, Hutchinson has compiled a 9-6-3 record with one shutout and a 2.86 goals-against-average in 18 outings this year. With Providence, the young net-minder is 10-8-1 with one shutout and a 3.13 GAA in 23 contests.

Prior to turning pro, Hutchinson spent four junior seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Barrie and London. The native of Barrie, Ontario, went a remarkable 32-12-2 with three shutouts and a 2.86 GAA in his final junior year for the Knights in 2009-10. Overall, Hutchinson compiled a 67-50-13 record in 130 regular season games in juniors, plus a 12-11 playoff mark. He was selected by Boston 77th overall in round three of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Schaefer, 31, went 9-16-1 with a 3.11 GAA and .897 save percentage in 30 games for Providence this season. He heads to the Bears, for whom he appeared in three games during the 2006-07 season.

The veteran keeper and 2007-08 Happy (Haps) Holmes Award winner for team goaltending was signed by Boston as a free agent on July 5, 2010, inking a one-year contract. An eighth-year pro, Schaefer spent the 2009-10 campaign with CSKA Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League, going 6-10-1 with a 2.66 GAA in 22 contests. Prior to playing in Russia, the native of Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan, appeared in seven NHL contests as a member of the San Jose Sharks in 2005-06, compiling a 5-1-0 record, one shutout, a 1.87 GAA and .920 save percentage. Schaefer, a four-year Providence College Friars standout from 1999 until 2003, was selected 166th overall by the Sharks in round five of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

The P-Bruins' roster is comprised of 23 players, including 13 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.

Providence gets back into action tonight, hosting the Charlotte Checkers for Sport Bottle Night at 7:05 p.m. The sport bottles are free to the first 2,000 fans in attendance. The P-Bruins are off on Saturday, but return to the ice on Sunday to host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 4:05 p.m. for Kids Hat Night.
