Bears Acquire Nolan Schaefer on Loan from Boston Bruins

HERSHEY - The 2010 Calder Cup Champion HERSHEY BEARS announced today the club has acquired goaltender Nolan Schaefer on loan from the NHL's Boston Bruins. The announcement was made today by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.

Schaefer, 31, brings 255 games of AHL experience to Chocolatetown, including three games in 2006-07 with HERSHEY under head coach Bruce Boudreau. He played in a career-high 51 games for the Houston Aeros in 2008-09 with a goals against average of 2.52. Schaefer also played in seven games for the NHL's San Jose Sharks in 2005-06, going 5-1-0 with a goals against average of 1.87.

A native of Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan, Schaefer has also played in the AHL with the Cleveland Barons, Worcester Sharks and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He has a 9-16-1 record this season with the Providence Bruins in 30 games, and a goals against average of 3.11. He is expected to be available to play for HERSHEY this weekend.

The American Hockey League's roster Clear Day deadline is this Monday, March 7 at 3:00 p.m. eastern time. All AHL clubs must submit their 2011 Calder Cup playoff rosters to the league at that time.

The BEARS host the Norfolk Admirals Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Sunday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. Call the Giant Center box office for the latest ticket information at (717) 534-3911. HERSHEY begins a stretch of seven games in nine nights Saturday when the Admirals come to town.
