P-Bruins Partner with Wal-Mart and Keep the Heat On Campaign

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins are partnering with Wal-Mart and The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence's Keep The Heat On Campaign to raise awareness and help support the Keep the Heat On Campaign. Wal-Mart has donated $25,000 to the Keep the Heat On Campaign, one of nine local organizations that received $25,000 grants from Wal-Mart in 2008.

The Providence Bruins and Wal-Mart have invited the Keep the Heat On Campaign out to the P-Bruins game on December 12 to further raise awareness of their efforts in the Providence community. Wal-Mart will be making an on-ice check presentation of the $25,000 grant to the Keep the Heat On Campaign prior to the game and fans will be able to visit Keep the Heat On representatives on the concourse throughout the game night to learn more about the organizations efforts.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence's Keep the Heat On Campaign provides heating assistance to those individuals and families living in Rhode Island who have exhausted all other public and private forms of assistance.  To obtain more information or support the campaign, please visit www.heatri.com.

Buchanan, senior manager of public affairs, Wal-Mart. "The service provided by Keep the Heat On and the Diocese of Providence make Rhode Island a better place to live and work, especially in tough economic times."

This is one of nine new Wal-Mart Foundation grants totaling $225,000 to non-profits organizations in Rhode Island supporting a wide range of community and social services programs that benefit children, adults, and working families throughout the state including heating assistance, quality healthcare, after school activities, environmental initiatives, and adult literacy.

 

These new foundation grants are in addition to Wal-Mart's established statewide charitable giving initiatives. In 2007, Wal-Mart Stores and Sam's Club gave a total of $674,057 in cash and in-kind donations to local causes and organizations in the communities they serve in the state of Rhode Island. Through additional funds raised through stores and Clubs throughout the state, Wal-Mart contributed and raised a grand total of $1,162,690 as a result of its presence in Rhode Island.

The P-Bruins head to the Hartford Civic Center tonight for a game against the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:00 p.m. before returning home to The Dunk for their game Friday evening against the Lowell Devils at 7:05 p.m. when the team will be hosting Keep The Heat On Campaign. Friday, December 12 is also Vladimir Sobotka bobblehead night.
