Springfield Falcons News Release
December 10, 2008 - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Worcester Sharks 3-2 in overtime at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA on Wednesday night. The Falcons have now earned at least a point in three of their last four games going 2-1-1-0 in that span. Springfield will next host Philadelphia on Friday night.
The Falcons came out and had a very solid first period as they forced an early power play opportunity with Ryan Potulny having the best scoring chance, but Worcester goaltender Taylor Dakers made a nice glove save. Despite Springfield having the better of the scoring chances, Worcester took a 1-0 lead at 9:42 of the first period when T.J. Fox's shot bounced off a pair of players and found the back of the net.
In a scoreless second period, the Falcons penalty killers were rock solid, with Springfield having more quality scoring chances in the middle frame as well. Potulny had Dakers rob him again on a Springfield power play, while Cory Urquhart had a shot hit the post on a two-on-one in the Worcester zone with Ryan O'Marra.
Springfield finally pulled even In the third period when Derek Bekar tied the score at 1-1 with his eighth goal of the season, but Worcester regained their lead at 2-1 when Jamie McGinn scored at 8:52 of the final frame. Springfield tied the score for the second time in the period when Guillaume Lefebvre scored his first marker of the campaign at 10:04 of the third period evening the score at 2-2.
The third period ended with each team having a chance to produce the go-ahead goal, inclduing Slava Trukhno's partial breakaway, but Dakers made the save. Devan Dubnyk's quick right pad save at the final buzzer also kept the contest deadlocked.
