Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (14-10-1-1) upended the Norfolk Admirals (8-15-1-4) 7-3 on Wednesday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton charged out of the gates to take a 4-0 lead through one period. Dustin Jeffrey opened scoring at 3:55 with a power play goal when his point shot cut through a screen and got past Admirals goaltender Karri Ramo. Thirty-eight seconds later, Ryan Stone sent a pass across the slot to Mark Letestu in the slot, and Letestu re-directed the puck five-hole on Ramo at 4:33. Just over four minutes later, Connor James found the rebound of a blocked shot and put it past Ramo at 8:50. Ramo's night ended just under three minutes later when Letestu finished off a tic-tac-toe passing play at 11:32.
Brandon Segal got Norfolk on the board 5:30 into the second period. Justin Keller sent a shot from the left circle that bounced off Penguins goaltender Adam Berkhoel to Segal near the top of the crease. Segal shoveled a backhander past Berkhoel for his tenth goal of the season.
The Penguins answered back under a minute later, as former Admiral Adam Henrich centered the puck from behind the net to Paul Bissonnette in the low slot. Bissonnette fired a shot over the catching glove of new Admirals goaltender Mike McKenna at 6:22.
Jamie Heward netted Norfolk's second goal of the game just 36 second into the final frame. Grant Potulny sent a pass from behind the net to Heward in the high slot. Heward one-timed the puck through traffic for his sixth goal of the season.
However, Tommy Goebel (6:05) and T.J. Kemp (10:46) scored to build Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's lead to 7-2.
Justin Keller closed out scoring with a shorthanded goal at 19:32.
Karri Ramo (9 shots, 5 saves) got the loss through 11:32. Mike McKenna (16 shots, 13 saves) did not receive a decision through 48:28. Adam Berkhoel (22 shots, 19 saves) got the win.
Norfolk was 0-3 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 1-6.
The Admirals will continue a five-game homestand with a pair of contests against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday and Saturday nights at Scope. Both games begin at 7:15 p.m.
