(Rochester, NY)... Tonight, the Rochester Americans wrap up their trip in the Lone Star State as they take on the Houston Aeros at the Toyota Center. The 8:05 p.m. EST non-divisional matchup will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live.
The game will be the second and final meeting between the two teams this season, with the Amerks earning a 3-2 win in the previous encounter back on November 8th at The Blue Cross Arena. The Amerks are 4-8-3 lifetime against the Minnesota Wild's affiliate.
Rochester (4-19-0-2, 10 points) enters the contest after suffering a 3-2 loss to the San Antonio Rampage last night at the AT&T Center. Rochester was led offensively with goals from Stefan Meyer and Kenndal McArdle, while rookie defenseman Jason Garrison assisted on both tallies. Mike Brodeur made his second consecutive start of the season for the Amerks, posting another 28-save performance as the Amerks were outshot 31-15.
Janis Sprukts (6+7) and Garrison (2+11) are currently tied for the team lead with 13 points after contributing on the score sheet last night. Sprukts is presently in the midst of a four-game point streak in which he shows four goals and two assists. Garrison, who has four assists in his last four outings, also leads the team in that category with 11 and remains Rochester's top scoring defenseman. Further, Garrison's 13 points ties him for 15th among American Hockey League blueliners. Fourth-year left wing Stefan Meyer netted his team-leading seventh goal of the season last night and his 12 points overall is third best on the team. Rochester's Michael Duco continues to lead the team with 83 penalty minutes, good enough for 12th in the league.
Houston (11-10-1-2, 25 points), enjoying Game 4 of season-long six-game homestand, comes into the game after a 4-3 win over the Syracuse Crunch Saturday night. The Aeros currently hold a sixth-place standing in the West Division.
Leading the charge for Houston is left wing Corey Locke who sits atop all offensive categories for the Aeros in points (25), goals (8) and assists (17). His 17 assists ties him for 12th in the AHL.
Houston owns one of the elite goaltending duos as both netminders rank among the top in the AHL. Barry Brust's 2.39 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage rank eighth and 10th in the league, respectively. Nolan Schaefer is 18th in the league with 2.58 goals-against average and boasts a 6-8-0 record with .908 save percentage.
Rochester returns home on Friday, December 12th to meet the Peoria Rivermen at The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:35 p.m. non-divisional matchup will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live.
Friday's game features the next installment of the Amerks' $7.00 Fridays, where fans can purchase 200 Upper End and 200 Balcony tickets for just $7.00. Friday is also Scout Night, in which all Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, along with their families and friends can purchase discounted tickets for the game. Tickets can be purchased at $10-$12 depending on seating arrangements. All scouts will be eligible to receive a commemorative Amerks Scout Patch.
