Providence, RI -- The Providence Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates in overtime 5-4 Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The Bruins came back from a two-goal deficit at the end of the second period to tie the game and send it into overtime where Ben Walter scored the game winning goal with 1:15 left in the extra session. Ben Guite had the game-tying goal along with the first P-Bruins goal. Jason MacDonald had a two-point night with a goal and an assist, while David Lundbohm had the other Providence goal.

Portland stuck first at the 8:15 mark of the first period, when Corey Perry got free down low and beat P-Bruins goaltender Jordan Sigalet. Only four minutes later, Providence tied the game at one on a Guite power play goal set up by Tyler Redenbach and Jonathan Sigalet. The Pirates headed into the first intermission up 2-1 after Geoff Peters scored off a rebound.

The Pirates went up 3-1 in the beginning of the second period when Ladislav Smid scored his first goal of the season. Thirty-six seconds later, the Bruins were back within a goal after Lundbohm scored from the near post. MacDonald and Jeremy Reich were credited with the assists. Portland scored one more time in the second when Bruno St. Jacques blasted a shot past Sigalet from just inside the blueline and went into the second intermission leading 4-2.

In the third period the Bruins took advantage of three power play opportunities to tie the game at four. At the 5:56 mark of the third period MacDonald put home the rebound off a Redenbach shot that was set up by Guite. Then with time running out in regulation and the P-Bruins back on the power play Zdenek Blatny broke his stick, but held the puck in the zone at the far point with his skate. Michael Schutte fed Milan Gajic halfway down the far boards and Gajic found Guite alone in front of the net. Guite beat Portland netminder Nathan Marsters upper right corner to tie the game and send it into overtime.

In overtime, Sigalet floated the puck out of his own end to Nathan Robinson in the neutral zone. Robinson sped past the Pirates' defenseman and sent a puck towards the crease. After Marsters made an initial save Walter picked up the loose puck and while Marsters was down scored to give the P-Bruins a 5-4 overtime victory. With the win Providence is back to five hundred on the season with a 7-7-1-0 record.
