After a scoreless opening period, the Bears got on the board first on a lucky bounce. Eric Fehr collected a strange carom off the boards behind Admirals netminder Corey Crawford and snapped a shot past the unsuspecting goalie at 1:45. But Norfolk tied it up on the power play about nine minutes later. After exchanging passes along the blue line, Anton Babchuk teed up a pass from Jason Morgan that whistled past Bears' backstop Kirk Daubenspeck at 10:24. However, Hershey would get the last strike in the second stanza. Boyd Gordon scored a power play goal at 15:55 to give the Bears a 2-1 lead. The Admirals out-shot Hershey 12-9, but the Bears led 2-1 at the second break.

Hershey stretched their lead to 3-1 with a goal by Louis Robitaille at 13:57 of the final frame. The Admirals answered less than a minute later. Andy Hilbert dished the puck from behind the net to Martin St. Pierre in the high slot. St. Pierre one-timed the puck and beat Daubenspeck high at 14:32. But Dave Steckel restored the Hershey two-goal lead with 2:36 remaining in the game. The Admirals again out-shot the Bears (15-11), but the final score was 4-2 in favor of Hershey.

Corey Crawford stopped 20 of Hershey's 24 shots and picked up the loss. Kirk Daubenspeck finished with 41 saves and earned the win.

Norfolk was 1-7 on the power play while Hershey was 1-5.
