Lowell, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (10-6-1-2) scored three times on the power play to take a 4-3 victory over the Lowell Lock Monsters (9-9-1-2) at Tsongas Arena on Friday night.

Springfield drew first blood on the power play 10 minutes into the game. Zbynek Hrdel redirected a shot by Anders Eriksson past G Vitaly Kolesnik for his second of the season. Lowell spent plenty of time in the offensive zone, amassing 14 shots on goal, but Gerald Coleman kept the Monsters scoreless in the opening 20 minutes.

Approaching the midway point of the contest the Springfield power struck again. Another redirected shot from the top of the slot, this time by Brad Tiley, made it 2-0. Meanwhile, the Monsters led in shots 21-11 halfway through the second period but Coleman stood strong. That is until Steve Saviano chipped home his first of the season at 12:31. The Reading, Massachusetts, native redirected home a centering feed from Brad Richardson to cut the deficit to one. It was the rookie's first career AHL goal. Just 1:35 later the Monsters tied the game up at 2-2. Colin Forbes one-timed a pass from Chad Larose for his seventh of the campaign, and the Lowell was back in the game.

In the third, the Springfield power play struck again to jump back in front. David Spina batted in a rebound for his second of the season at 5:48 to make it 3-2 in favor of the visitors. The Lock Monsters penalty kill entered the game first in the league, and allowed more than one power play goal for just the second time all season. Keith Aucoin answered to once again tie the game for Lowell. At 12:37 of the third, Aucoin became the first Monster to reach double digits in goals. It wouldn't last. Marek Kvapil snuck a backhander past Kolesnik just 25 seconds later for the eventual game winner to make it 4-3 Springfield.

The Lock Monsters travel to Portland on Saturday night for a 7:05 p.m. start. Next weekend the Monsters host a pair of games, with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in town on Friday night and the Providence Bruins on Saturday. Both games start at 7:35 p.m. Saturday's game features the annual Teddy Bear Toss, sponsored by Lowell General Hospital. Everyone is asked to bring a new Teddy Bear or other stuffed animal to the game, and when the Monsters score their first goal of the night, throw the animals on the ice. The teddy bears will be donated to the Pediatric Unit and other local charities.

All games home and away can be heard live on 980 WCAP, and viewed through B2 Networks, the official broadband provider of the AHL, with the "Voice of the Lock Monsters" Ryan Johnston. Log on to www.lockmonsters.com to watch or listen online.
