Richmond Returns From Carolina, McCormick Goes Back to Avs

November 25, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release

Lowell, Mass. - The Lowell Lock Monsters take on the Springfield Falcons tonight at 7:35 p.m. at Tsongas Arena and will get a boost on defense with the return of Danny Richmond from the Carolina Hurricanes.

Richmond, 21, was recalled by Carolina on November 11th and played in seven games with the Canes - the first NHL games of his career. He recorded no points and averaged over nine minutes of ice time a game during his stint. He returns to the Monsters lineup as the second-leading scorer among blueliners with eight points (1g-7a) in 12 games.

Lowell loses RW Cody McCormick just days after he was returned to the Lock Monsters from Colorado. The Avalanche recalled him yesterday after he played on Wednesday night. McCormick has seven points (1g-6a) in 13 games with Lowell, and is second on the team with 34 penalty minutes.

The Lock Monsters and the Lowell Sun are teaming up to give away $25,000 when the Springfield Falcons come to town tonight. Should the Lock Monsters score eight or more goals against Springfield, one fan will walk away with the cash.

The eight-goal mark is in honor of the Lock Monsters eighth season in the Merrimack Valley, and also is the team record. Lowell has scored eight goals twice in team history. On October 26th, 2001, the Lock Monsters claimed an 8-4 triumph on the road against the Portland Pirates, and on January 9th last season, Lowell defeated the Providence Bruins 8-7 in a shootout at Tsongas Arena. Individual shootout goals do not count towards the eight goal stipulation, only if a shootout victory gives the team an eighth and final goal.

Should the Lock Monsters fall just short of eight goals, there will also be consolation prizes. If they score seven goals, the winning fan will get $2,500 and if they tally six goals, the winnings will be $250. The Monsters currently rank 10th in the league in average goals scored per game, and their season-high is seven goals, accomplished against this very same Springfield club on October 28th.

Individual tickets start at $10 and are on sale now at the Tsongas Arena box office, which is open from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Flex Packs, Holiday Hat Trick packages and Monsters merchandise make great gifts for the holidays, and are on sale now. Contact the Lock Monsters ticket office at (978) 458-PUCK (7825) for more information. All games home and away, can be heard live on 980 WCAP with the Voice of the Monsters, Ryan Johnston.
