Omaha Falls in Game Five to Toledo in Pitcher's Duel

July 8, 2022 - International League (IL)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Papillion, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (41-40) lost game five to the Toledo Mud Hens (41-40) 4-1. Omaha now leads the series 4-1 and the season series 6-4. The two teams are back to tied for fourth place in the International League.

Both pitchers started well, but Omaha conceded the game's first runs. The Mud Hens recorded a pair of runs in the top of the third, loading the bases and hitting into a force out that Omaha couldn't turn into two outs. Toledo plated another when, with runners at the corners, the runner from first got caught in a pickle that allowed the runner to score from third and open a 2-0 lead.

Center fielder Dairon Blanco broke up the Mud Hens no-hitter in the bottom of the fourth with a soft line drive into center field. The hit extends Blanco's hitting streak to 13 games, tied for the longest on the team this season. First baseman Nick Pratto hit another ball into center field to put runners at first and second with nobody out. Right fielder Nate Eaton grounded into a force out that retired Pratto but left runners at the corners. Blanco would come in to score when second baseman Michael Massey hit into a groundout to make the deficit one run.

Left-hander Drew Parrish (Loss, 1-3) went 4.2 innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits. Parrish loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth before right-hander Collin Snider came in and stranded the bases loaded to get out of the jam.

Toledo used a bases loaded single to put another run on the board in the sixth and make the score 3-1 in favor of the Mud Hens.

Designated hitter Brewer Hicklen hit a single with one out in the seventh but would end up stranded after Omaha hit a flyout and a groundout. Toledo used a pair of walks and a Storm Chasers error to put up a run in the top of the eighth and make the score 4-1.

Second baseman Michael Massey hit a bunt single in the bottom of the ninth to extend his on-base streak to 21 games. In the end, Omaha was not able to answer in the final inning and lost 4-1.

The Storm Chasers take on the Mud Hens Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage begins at 6:45 on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone. Tomorrow's probable for Omaha is right-hander Carlos Hernández (1-4, 4.66) while Toledo sends Logan Shore to the mound.

Tomorrow's game is Christmas in July presented by Valentino's. Special Christmas themed promotions will take place throughout the night. It is also Bands & Brews presented by J&M Displays and Werner Enterprises featuring music by The Drawing Board and craft beer specials from Kona Brewing.
