Charlotte Knights News Release

(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) - The Charlotte Knights dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader to the Gwinnett Stripers from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. Charlotte lost game one by a score of 3-2 and lost game two by a score of 3-0.

Infielder Zach Remillard led the way offensively for the Knights on Friday night. In game one, Remillard provided both of Charlotte's runs with a two-run home run in the fifth inning. At that point, it gave the Knights a 2-1 lead over the Stripers. Remillard finished game one with two hits, a home run and two RBIs.

The Stripers battled back and tied game one in the bottom of the fifth inning when Braden Shewmake was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Hernan Perez scored the game-tying run in the fifth. Two innings later, in the bottom of the seventh inning of game one, RHP Yacksel Ríos (3-2, 3.38) walked Travis Demeritte with the bases loaded to allow the game-winning run to score. Drew Waters scored from third base to give the Stripers a 3-2 win in game one. Ríos was charged with the loss.

In game two, the Knights received solid pitching, but managed just two hits in the game. Both teams failed to push across a run over the first five innings of the game. In the bottom of the sixth, however, the Stripers broke the game open and scored three runs off Charlotte LHP Bennett Sousa (0-1, 10.50), who was saddled with the loss. Sousa allowed a two-run single to Ryan Casteel and an RBI double to Ryan Goins.

The Knights failed to push across any runs in game two and fell to the Stripers by a score of 3-0. Remillard and Yolbert Sánchez each had a hit in the game two loss, Charlotte's only hits of the game.

The two teams played a doubleheader on Friday after Thursday's game was postponed due to inclement weather.

The Knights will continue the six-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers on Saturday night from Coolray Field. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
