Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Brian Miller homered in a four-run sixth inning on Friday to allow the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to leapfrog the Norfolk Tides 6-3 from 121 Financial Ballpark.
Norfolk (40-42) led 3-1 when starter Matt Harvey walked Charles Leblanc with two outs. Tides reliever Tim Naughton (0-2) came on and promptly served up a double to Luis Aviles Jr. before Erik González tied the game with a two-run single. Miller followed by launching a two-run home run to put Jacksonville (44-38) in front.
Lewin Díaz led off the seventh inning with a bomb to widen the gap to 6-3.
That offense was more than enough thanks to the Jumbo Shrimp bullpen. Nick Neidert (2-0) pitched 5.0 innings of two-run ball. Andrew Nardi tossed a scoreless frame before George Soriano nabbed the final four outs for his third save. In a rehab start, Cody Poteet registered 1.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
The Jumbo Shrimp initially took the lead back in the second. Aviles Jr. tripled with one out before coming home on an error.
The Tides were able to respond immediately in the third. An error put Dylan Harris on to start the frame before Terrin Vavra walked. Jordan Westburg then lined a three-run shot to left for a 3-1 Norfolk advantage.
Jacksonville hosts Norfolk at 6:35 p.m. on Saturday. RHP Max Meyer (3-3, 3.71 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp against Tides LHP Bruce Zimmerman (1-0, 4.91 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on MiLB.tv, ESPN 690 and ESPN690.com.
On Comic Hero Day, the first 2,000 fans through the gates at 121 Financial Ballpark will receive a Comic Hero Hawaiian Shirt presented by Swisher. Fans will also be treated to a postgame fireworks show following Saturday's game.
