Louisville Bats News Release
Louisville, KY- The Louisville Bats (32-49) put up four in the fourth inning against the St. Paul Saints (40-41) behind a terrific second career Triple-A outing from Brandon Williamson (1-1, 4.50) to tie the series at two wins apiece at Louisville Slugger Field.
Elliot Soto broke an early pitching duel in the top of the third by blasting his third home run of the season over the left center field wall giving the Saints a 1-0 lead.
After Mario Sanchez (4-3, 3.24) retired nine of the first eleven Louisville batters, Max Schrock ties the game in the bottom of the fourth with a big blast of his own to right center field, tying the game at 1-1. One batter later, Juniel Querecuto kept the long balls coming as he homered over the right field wall giving Louisville a 2-1 lead. With still just one out in the fourth, following a Cedrola double, the Bats continued to pour on the pressure with a two-RBI single from Chuckie Robinson growing the Bats lead to 4-1.
The Saints tried to stop the bleeding after a four run fourth by the Bats but couldn't prevail after stranding runners in scoring position with two outs.
Chuckie Robinson makes a difficult play look easy behind the plate as he makes a sliding play catching a pop-up just in front of the Louisville dugout for the third out ending a great second career start for Brandon Williamson (1-1, 4.50).
Williamson earned his first career quality start throwing six complete innings, giving up one run on six hits, and one walk, while contributing four strikeouts.
Trailing 4-1 in the top of the ninth, the Saints threatened with a runner in scoring position, but Fernando Cruz shut the door for the Bats earning his 14th save while keeping the final score at 4-1.
The Bats are hungry and looking to win two in a row and take the series lead against the St. Paul Saints tomorrow night (July 9) with a scheduled first pitch at 7:05 p.m. at Louisville Slugger Field. On the hill for Louisville is T.J. Zeuch (0-4, 10.03) as he will face off against (3-0, 4.21) for the Saints.
