Iowa Cubs News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indianapolis Indians (39-41) bested the Iowa Cubs (36-45) by a final score of 7-2 on Friday night at Victory Field, evening the series at two wins apiece.

After both starting pitchers sailed through their first two frames, Iowa opened the scoring in the top of the third. John Hicks reached on a throwing error, then Trent Giambrone and Dixon Machado followed up with singles, driving in Hicks to put the I-Cubs up 1-0.

Their lead didn't hold for long, as Indianapolis struck back in the bottom half of the inning. Carter Bins led off the inning with a game-tying home run, then Tucupita Marcano singled. After Iowa starter Caleb Kilian recorded the first two outs of the inning, the Indians racked up five straight hits, including a double, a triple and another home run. All told, their effort plated six more runs, giving them a 7-1 lead after the third inning.

With the third inning over, both offenses ground to a halt. Brandon Leibrandt took over for Iowa in the fourth and faced just four men in that inning before striking out the side in the fifth. He was followed by Cayne Ueckert, who put together a pair of scoreless innings, and Eury Ramos, who allowed a single and a walk, but held Indianapolis scoreless in the ninth, too.

On the other side, Indianapolis sent four relievers out for an inning each, and they combined to allow just one hit and one run. The damage came in the seventh inning off the bat of Jackson Frazier, who hit his third home run of the season to give Iowa their second run of the game. He would prove to be the final baserunner of the day for Iowa, and Indianapolis took home their second win of the series by a final score of 7-2.

POSTGAME NOTES:

Caleb Kilian allowed all seven of Indianapolis' runs and was credited with the loss - the first of his career at Triple-A.

The I-Cubs collected just four hits as a team, their fewest in a game since June 16, when they recorded three hits against Omaha.

Brandon Leibrandt has now allowed only one hit and no runs in his last 9.0 innings between Iowa and Double-A Tennessee.

Tucupita Marcano was picked off and caught stealing by Brandon Leibrandt and catcher Tyler Payne. The I-Cubs have now thrown out 19 baserunners in 121 stolen base attempts.

Iowa will face off with Indianapolis again tomorrow for game five of the six-game series. First pitch between the I-Cubs and the Indians is set for 6:05 CT. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
