Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

WORCESTER, MA -The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (39-43) defeated the Worcester Red Sox 5-3 on Friday night. With the win, they've evened the season series against the WooSox through ten games and move to four games within .500 for the first time since April 30.

Estevan Florial once more started the scoring for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. With two outs in the third, Florial launched his team-leading eleventh homer of the year. It was his second home run off Red Sox pitcher Geoff Hartlieb in the series. The RailRiders added a pair off rehabber Garrett Whitlock in the top of the fifth. Oswald Peraza picked up his 29th RBI of the season with a single. Josh Breaux, in just his second appearance at the Triple-A level, found his first RBI with a single as well. He had singled his first at-bat earlier in the game for his first Triple-A hit.

Hayden Wesneski was solid in his 16th start of the season, tossing six scoreless innings with six strikeouts. The right-hander surrendered three straight hits to start the second but got out of the jam unscathed.

In the seventh inning, Bauers unloaded his second RailRiders homer with an awe-inspiring 470 foot long ball 111 MPH off the bat. The ball sailed over the seats in right-center and left the confines of Polar Park. It's amongst the longest home runs hit in Polar Park's young history. The RailRiders led 5-0 out of the inning.

Michael Gomez tossed a scoreless seventh. Jeter Downs sent his 16th homer of the year with a three-run shot in the bottom of the ninth as the lone offense for the WooSox in a 5-3 final. The win goes to Wesneski (4-7) with the loss going to Hartlieb (1-3).

The series continues on Saturday afternoon as SWB sends Jhony Brito (3-1, 2.31) to the mound for game five. All the action can be heard on the RailRiders Radio Network with first pitch at 4:05 PM.
