Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Paul Saints scored seven runs on 12 hits and the Omaha Storm Chasers were no-hit for the first five innings, ultimately falling, 7-3, on Friday at CHS Field.
It was Omaha's (33-18) fourth loss in the last five games and third loss in the six-game series against St. Paul (24-27).
The Saints jumped in front in the first inning against left-hander Daniel Lynch (Loss, 4-2) when Drew Maggi hit a solo home run. St. Paul added four runs in the second inning on five consecutive two-out hits, including a two-run homer by Keon Broxton and RBI doubles from Jose Miranda and Maggi.
Right-hander Josh Winder (Win, 1-0) held the Chasers without a hit for the first five innings before shortstop Erick Mejia singled with one out in the fifth inning. After Winder exited the game following his eighth strikeout, third baseman Gabriel Cancel crushed a two-run home run against right-hander Robinson Leyer to end the shutout bid.
It was Cancel's 13th home run of the season and his second of the series. Omaha now leads all of Minor League Baseball with 97 home runs in 51 games and is on pace to hit 247 home runs, which would break the current franchise record of 231 set in 1999.
Omaha added a run in the seventh, loading the bases on an error, single, and walk before Mejia sliced a single up the middle.
The Storm Chasers continue their series with the St. Paul Saints on Friday at CHS Field in St. Paul, Minn., when right-hander Jackson Kowar (5-1, 1.53) faces St. Paul left-hander Charlie Barnes (3-2, 3.94). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. and coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show at 6:45 p.m. on 1180 The Zone.
After the series in St. Paul, the Omaha Storm Chasers return to Werner Park on Tuesday, July 6, to begin a six-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens that features special FNBO Summer Fireworks Series shows on July 8 and July 10 and an Adalberto Mondesi bobblehead giveaway on July 9.
