Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Backed by an impressive performance on the mound from RHP Jimmy Lambert and a home run from third baseman Tim Beckham, the Charlotte Knights shut out the Norfolk Tides by a score of 4-0 on Friday night in front of 8,402 fans at Truist Field.
Lambert (2-0, 3.48) pitched into the sixth inning on Friday and allowed just two hits over 5.2 scoreless innings. The 26-year-old righty also struck-out a season-high eight batters on the evening. After Lambert's night came to an end, four Charlotte relievers (Hunter Schryver, Keyvius Sampson, Connor Sadzeck and Nik Turley) combined to hold the Knights to just one hit over the final 3.1 innings.
Offensively, Beckham continued his hot hitting and launched his team-high 11th home run of the season in the third inning to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Beckham finished the game with two hits and has now hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games.
The Knights tacked on three more runs along the way thanks to some timely hitting and a balk. Second baseman Marco Hernández hit an RBI single in the fourth inning to make it a 2-0 lead. In the seventh inning with Beckham at the plate, a balk was called and Hernandez came around to score Charlotte's third run of the game. One inning later, center fielder Luis Gonzalez drove home shortstop Matt Reynolds with an RBI double to make it a 4-0 ballgame.
With the win, the Knights improved to 15-12 in Uptown Charlotte this season.
The two teams will continue the six-game series from Truist Field on Saturday with first pitch set for 7:04 p.m. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time radio broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com. The game will also be aired live on My 12 WMYT starting at 7:00 p.m.
