Norfolk Tides News Release
The Norfolk Tides lost to the Charlotte Knights after the Knights gained the lead in the second inning. The Tides scored one run in the second but were held scoreless through seven straight innings. The Tides lost to the Knights, 3-1.
The Knights were able to get runners in the corners after a HBP drawn by Mikie Mahtook and a single by Yermin Mercedes. Mahtook and Mercedes both scored to put the Knights up 2-0. A sac fly by Matt Reynolds brought in Mahtook and a single by Ti'Quan Forbes brought in Mercedes. The Knights went up 2-0 in the top of the second inning.
Down 2-0, the Tides rescinded with a run of their own in the bottom of the second inning. The Tides scored their only run of the inning off a Zach Jarrett single. They had two base runners and a run scored all before recording their first out in the inning.
The Tides score one run in the bottom of the second on a Zach Jarrett RBI single. Norfolk loaded the bases in the third but couldn't score.
Tides pitcher Ofelky Peralta had two strikeouts in the third inning to prevent the Knights from scoring after they loaded the bases. The Knights loaded the bases after a walk by Blake Rutherford, a single by Jake Burger, and a walk by Mahtook. It looked like a sure score for the Knights, but Peralta held his composure striking out the last two batters, Mercedes and Zach Collins. Both teams were able to load the bases, but neither were able to get any runs off of them, due to really good pitching from the Tides and really good fielding from the Knights in the third inning.
Knights Zach Remillard got on with a hit by pitch and made his way around the bases after two singles from his teammates Mikie Mahtook and Yermin Mercedes. The Knights finished the game with six hits to score three runs. The went up 3-1, holding the Tides to one run after retiring 21 Tides' batters since the second inning.
Peralta was relieved in the fifth inning after giving up his third run of the game. This was Peralta's fourth game at home out of six total. He struck out four and while walking two. He tied his season high in pitches, with 90 in the game, with 54 of those being strikes. Peralta continues to not play well at home, with a 6.52 ERA at home versus a 2.31 ERA away (2 games).
The Tides and the Knights will face off again on Friday, September 3 at Harbor Park, starting at 7:05 p.m. Join the Tides at Harbor Park as there will be three Post-Game Firework Extravaganzas from Friday, September 3 - Sunday, September 5, with a firework show after each of the three games on those days.
